LGBT Club at LBCC
Gender & Sexuality Alliance
The GSA, Gender & Sexuality Alliance club, at Linn-Benton Community College has been struggling to find a president for about a month. The last president,Mattie Guilliams had her title for about a term and a half before she had to resign. One of the past presidents, James-Harley Parr said "My grandmother got sick and I was not able to continue the group."The current president Corbitt Sanders is very excited about being appointed this title. He says that "we are an accepting group who have been through our own trials and tribulations" Corbitt Sanders believes that everyone should have someone to talk to and somewhere to feel safe.
The GSA will be meeting next Wednesday and Thursday to talk about when and where they will be having their future meetings. Their main focus for meetings will be about issues in the community, safe sex, and talk about LGBT dating/ struggles/ and lives, Aliza Fegan says that "The group is for you to connect and share." The GSA occasionally has a movie night where they play an LGBT+ film. Aliza Fegan also said that " The GSA is a pretty vital group to have."
Corbitt Sanders is proud to say he wants to start a kind of confession box, where club members and students can anonymously ask questions. He says "You need a place to talk about experiences, and we've all had some awkward experiences."
Something that the club accomplished was the five gender-inclusive restrooms on campus. The locations of a few are RCH-112, NSH-118, and NSH-216. Check them out!
Some members such as Aliza Fegan, and James-Harley Parr feel that the club has not been represented well. James-Harley Parr said "I don't think the club was well represented at LBCC but it was definitely good to have on campus." James was wanting to have a drag show to raise money for the GSA club this spring term.
